Role:
In a time of unprecedented expansion, we are seeking a Senior Director of Sourcing, Furniture to join our team. As the Senior Director of Sourcing, you will act as a leader, mentor, and subject matter expert in the field. This role encompasses comprehensive support for the team and the development of strong cross-functional relationships through a service-oriented approach. The Senior Director of Sourcing will be highly communicative, providing recommendations and solutions to enhance current processes. Additionally, the ideal candidate will possess the ability to solve complex problems through effective communication with domestic and international partners. A deep understanding of retail math, product performance requirements, materials, and global manufacturing processes is highly desirable.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and mentor a team of sourcing professionals, providing guidance and fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
- Utilize your expertise in global sourcing and product development to drive margin objectives, quality standards, and process efficiencies throughout the product lifecycle.
- Develop and nurture vendors with high expectations to establish a supplier matrix that mitigates risk and aligns with the long-term needs of the business.
- Achieve margin goals by leading cost negotiations and product development initiatives in collaboration with cross-functional partners and senior executives.
- Monitor the performance of current suppliers, assessing their ability to meet quality expectations and ensure on-time delivery.
- Collaborate with existing vendors to understand their core capabilities and identify opportunities to diversify the overall vendor matrix.
- Maintain a comprehensive sourcing tracker to track current and upcoming deadlines, enabling timely escalation, troubleshooting, and providing insights into potential issues that may impact project timing or cause bottlenecks.
- Demonstrate strong organizational skills and maintain a high-level information overview.
- Develop a deep understanding of the factors driving quality, cost, and delivery for the assigned areas.
- Analyze data to facilitate purposeful decision-making and drive continuous improvement in sourcing strategies.
- Lead strategic projects, such as vendor rationalization, consolidation, market diversification, or annual cost negotiations.
- Utilize strong communication skills to effectively convey information to internal teams and vendors, building strong relationships.
- Facilitate the exchange of key information that drives continuous improvement and growth for all stakeholders.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in quality, engineering, or equivalent experience.
- At least 15+ years of experience in the sourcing, supply chain management, or related fields, with a focus on global sourcing and product development, preferably in related industry.
- Proven leadership skills with experience in leading and developing high-performing teams.
- Ability to create, develop, and implement new processes to drive efficiency in sourcing and product development.
- Excellent project management skills, including strong organizational, verbal, and written communication abilities.
- Exceptional interpersonal and negotiation skills, with a proven ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with internal partners, overseas teams, and vendors.
- Extensive experience sourcing overseas vendors with specific knowledge of the furniture industry, including upholstery, chairs, seating, metal, wood, and engineered wood items.
- Solid understanding of raw material manufacturing processes involving solid wood, plywood, veneers, textiles, vinyls, and metal substrates.
- Familiarity with factory production timing as it relates to material flows, production output, and inventory levels.
- Experience with or understanding of quality standards associated with furniture in the contract and hospitality space.
- Willingness to work flexible hours to accommodate domestic and/or overseas vendors in different time zones when necessary and travel domestically and internationally for team meetings, vendor visits, conferences, visits to company headquarters, and other related activities.
- Strong command of English and Mandarin; proficiency in other Asian languages is a plus.
