Senior Sustaining Engineer II Needed for Largest Transit Bus Manufacturer

One of the largest transit bus manufacturers are looking for a talented Senior Sustaining Engineer II to join their team in the Bay Area. This family-owned business has been around for over 100 years and has recently partnered with over 45 transit agencies, investing in their clean-energy buses. The Senior Sustaining Engineer II will be responsible for engineering design, problem resolution and other engineering duties in support of the design as well as manufacturing of subsystems.
Responsibilities:
- Emphasis on providing robust, service-friendly, and cost-conscious electrical designs for vehicle low voltage (12/24VDC) and high-voltage (600VDC, 240/480VAC) systems
- Optimize designs via analytical, numerical and/or empirical assessments
- Direct CAD designer to complete 3D models and drawings as necessary
- Review CAD models/drawings at the component, subsystem, and system level to ensure their integrity
- Document final design upon the successful development of component and simple subsystem, which includes releasing the final technical specification, related design calculation, and design (manual or guideline)
- Create and maintain Bill of Materials (BOM) along with all project documentation
- Work with the test engineer(s) to create DVP&R, execute the defined test plan and review the test results/reports

- Communicate system & vehicle level designs to internal/external customers
Requirements:
- BS in Electrical Engineering or equivalent discipline required
- Minimum 5 years of engineering experience
- Understanding of Heavy-Duty Transit Bus Duty Cycle
- Understanding of Automotive mechanical systems and functions
- Detailed knowledge and application of industry practices and standards (NFPA, NEC, APTA, etc.)
- Working knowledge in electrical power distribution including AC and DC systems
- Generating harnesses and electrical schematic using CAD software
- Familiarity with automotive components such as circuit breakers, relays, and wiring, etc.
- Understanding of automotive industry standards such as SAE, NFPA, FMVSS, etc.
